Reflection in the Mirror

Reflection in the Mirror

 By-Crickettt

As water reflects the face, so the heart reflects the person. Proverbs 27:19 HCSB

For now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12 HCSB

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3 HCSB

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? You see a reflection of yourself staring back at you. Your reflection paints a picture of the outward appearance of what you look like, but does it also reflect the inward parts of who you really are? What is embedded on the inside of us determines what will be reflected back for others to see. We are like a mirror. People see an image that looks a certain way, but when the words or actions of a person are revealed, whether good or bad, it exposes who we really are. Our hearts contain the treasures within that exposes everything we represent. The Bible says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 HCSB

If you are a believer and follower of Christ Jesus, your heart will be filled with His Holy Spirit. Therefore, your words and actions will mimic the righteousness of Jesus. Your heart’s treasure will be a soul filled with love, faithfulness, and obedience. If your heart is filled with wickedness, your words and actions will be evil and mimic Satan’s evil and destructive ways. The Bible says he is a liar and the father of all lies. There is no good found in him. He is a deceiver and destroyer of man. Your heart’s treasure will be a soul filled with hate, evil acts, and total disobedience.

The image we see in the mirror is only temporary and is always changing, but our soul is forever. “Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him/God who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28 HCSB

In the verse Hebrews 1:3, we see Jesus as the true reflection of who God is. God is Love and because Jesus loved us, He came into the world and took upon Himself the form of a man. Jesus is God in flesh and whatever the Father does, Jesus does also. “Then Jesus replied, “I assure you: The Son is not able to do anything on His own, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does these things in the same way.” John 5:19 HCSB

Jesus is a reflection of a love so great that we cannot comprehend it. Before Jesus came and took our place on the cross and became the ultimate sacrifice for all the sins of man, our souls were condemned with no hope. Jesus came to earth, He died on the cross, and on the third day was resurrected so we could have eternal life with Him. Jesus is the image of His Father, God. He has given His Holy Spirit to all those who receive Him as their Lord and Savior. Mankind is the reflection of His love. We were all created in His image.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” Psalms 139:14 NKJV

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27 NKJV

There is an overwhelming plague of "body imagery " all over this world. People always seem to be judging others based on looks rather than who they are inside. This form of body imagery produces unwholesome, negative insecurities for all ages. Millions of people suffer from anorexia, bulimia, and other psychological issues due to the standards set by man. The use of other outlets such as, commercials, media, and social media contain images that constantly remind us that we need to change in order to be accepted in today's society. It has only grown worse year after year. Christians are not unsusceptible to this either. Jesus reminded us in His Word that He came to heal us (mind, body, and soul) and took away what the world had pronounced upon our lives regarding who we are as individuals. He does not see what we see in the mirror. He looks beyond the outter image and sees the heart. We are His handiwork, beautifully and wonderfully made in His image. The Bible says, He knitted us together in our mother's womb. He placed a good plan and purpose within each of us. We are His divine creation therefore, He commands His love upon us unconditionally. Our hearts play a vital role in how we see ourselves. God loves us no matter what we think or how we see ourselves in the mirror.

Sin can make us feel unworthy so, if left unchecked, it can lead to personal and bodily destruction. The eyes are the window to your soul. That is why it is easy to tell when someone is good or evil. Good or evil intentions will reflect back through the countenance of others. What reflection in the mirror do others see in you? What does your words and actions say about who you really are and who you serve? Examine your heart today and see if there is any unrighteousness found within. He is waiting to give you eternal life if you will repent of your sins and accept Him into your heart today.

God is the author and finisher of your faith. He loves you with an everlasting love. Look in the mirror once again and you will see His love radiating within. You are His prize possession. He loves you.

“I, Yahweh, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.” Jeremiah 17:10 HCSB

Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life. Proverbs 4:23 HCSB
