When we hear the words 'Peace on earth', what does that mean to you? There's a peace that comes when our hearts are focused on Jesus. With our heart's hands lifted toward heaven, we can stand in the midst of all things and have the peace of God which the world can never give.

Peace..a quieting word, so quieting that merely reading the word chips away at the cold hard places of my heart. Peace and stillness amidst a never ending cycle of distress and unrest on our small planet seem to slip into obscurity, unnoticed by all but a sacred few. Children know them well. Children have a remarkable ability to lay aside conflict, take the hand of their opposition, and keep skipping down the sidewalk hand in hand. Children cry one moment and laugh the next breath. While the television sets air news of world wars and unsettling infractions against innocence, just feet from that technological mouthpiece a child is playing with a doll or building a lego city. They are able to look at the scenes of destruction and immediately turn back to their object of attention to continue playing or building. Peace on earth. It seems they have captured an essence of it, much like capturing a firefly in a jar and then joyfully releasing it back into the dark night. They don't count the loss; they look forward to the next firefly, and the next. Peace on earth. It began with a child and ends with becoming childlike. This is the kingdom of God. This is Peace on earth, good will towards all people everywhere.
To me, the words "Peace on earth" means: God will give His supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding to His children who believe and trust in His Word and who He is . Real peace only comes through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Jesus made that possible when He came into this world in the form of a man to save the world from its sins. He became God incarnate, the exact image of God in flesh and walked among mankind teaching and ministering to the broken, outcast and lost. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life". True peace is only found in Christ. Everything else is only temporary.
It also reminds me of what the angel said to the shepherds who were living out in the fields and keeping watch over their flocks by night when Jesus was born.
Luke 2:9-14 (NKJV)-And behold, an angel of the Lord appeared before them, and the glory of the Lord shown around them and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the ciry of David a savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger". And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Jesus' birth fulfilled all the prophecies spoken in the Old Testament and through Him, peace on earth would become possible.
